The wind turbine model developed by China Railway Group can generate 40 kWh of electricity with just one rotation, optimizing energy production.
China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) has announced plans to introduce a 20 MW wind turbine, one of the most powerful in the industry, targeting the floating offshore wind power market, according to Interesting Engineering on September 26. This wind turbine is described as the best choice for harnessing offshore wind resources in deep waters, with the capability to generate 40 kWh of electricity per rotation. The announcement was made at the WindEnergy Hamburg conference in Germany, alongside CRRC’s latest achievements in wind turbine clusters, component supply management, and integrated wind-solar-hydrogen-storage systems.
The 20 MW floating offshore wind turbine generator represents a major technological breakthrough in wind power. It features a 260-meter rotor diameter, a 320-meter blade tip height, and a swept area of 53,000 square meters, equivalent to seven standard football fields.
With its high capacity and massive size, the new turbine is ideal for deep-water offshore wind resource development, particularly in areas with consistent strong winds. CRRC claims its product will enhance the efficiency of offshore wind energy projects worldwide.
CRRC has established a comprehensive wind turbine supply chain, covering essential components such as generators, blades, towers, inverters, gearboxes, and transformers. The company’s top-tier wind turbines are designed for offshore power capacities ranging from 8 to 20 MW and onshore capacities from 1.5 to 12 MW. With 20 manufacturing sites, CRRC has supplied over 260 wind farms globally, with a total installed capacity exceeding 13,000 units.
At the event, CRRC showcased its advanced intelligent control system, featuring high-precision wind prediction, energy guidance platforms, ultra-tall towers, and cloud-based predictive health monitoring (PHM) systems. The company also offers customized solutions tailored to different geographical and climatic conditions.
